Unveiling the Unexpected: A Deep Dive into Mid-East European and Viking Connection with the Seale Surname through an iGENEA DNA Test
Family name Seale
Intertwining curiosity and genetics, I took an iGENEA DNA test to dig deeper into my family history tied to the surname "Seale". The revelations that emerged debunked long-held beliefs about my lineage, unearthing connections to Mid-Eastern Europe and Viking heritage.
After spending weeks in anticipation, I finally received my DNA test results from iGENEA. I enrolled for the process to uncover the layers of my historical lineage and connect dots regarding my roots. To my surprise, it revealed much more than my initial understanding about my surname, Seale.
My initial results exhibited a strong connection to Western Europe, particularly with France and England. It was quite presumed on my part, given the origin of Seale, which comes from Old French 'selle' or 'salle', meaning 'hall' or 'dwelling'. Still, the results brought an unexpected twist by confirming that I also share genes from Mid-Eastern Europe, a fact that we, as a family, were quite oblivious about.
Further, the data displayed a lineage that takes the Seale surname far back beyond 1600s, revealing a vibrant and diverse historical past. An intriguing highlight from the test results is the significant presence of Scandinavian Viking DNA. Even though my family has lived for generations in England, it seems somewhere along the line, we crossed path with some adventurous Vikings.
Surprisingly, I learned that Seale might not be the only surname carried by my ancestors. iGENEA's surname project highlighted an alias name, ‘Unwin,’ which belongs to the same haplogroup. This suggests that the folks carrying both the surnames ‘Seale’ and ‘Unwin’ share a common ancestor not so long ago.
Uncovering a part of my Middle-East European past and the potential ancestral alias uncovered through this process is enlightening, debunking the belief that our lineage is solely English. The iGENEA DNA test offers much more than merely tracing DNA – it provides a fascinating connection to our past.
In all, this DNA journey has been a wild, enlightening, and surprising ride, sometimes taking me through uncharted territories and unexpected turns but nourishing my present with profound insights into the past. The journey definitely does not end here. I have newfound questions and mysteries to unravel as I continue digging deeper into the past, exploring what it means to carry the surname Seale.
