Unravelling My Ancestry: Insights from My iGENEA DNA Test on the Pridgen Surname

Family name Pridgen

Venturing into the mysterious world of genetics, I uncovered exciting facets of my lineage, particularly tied to the surname Pridgen. My iGENEA DNA test results indicated a complex tapestry of ancestry, tying my family line to Western Europe, combined with unexpected links to Scandinavia and Central Asia, each providing a captivating tale of our ancestral journeys and encounters.

My recent journey of self-discovery via an iGENEA DNA test unravelled new layers of my family heritage, particularly connected to the surname Pridgen. Armed with the science of genetics, I delved deep into my lineage and emerged with some incredible insights.

Scientifically, it was fascinating to understand how DNA testing works at iGENEA. Each chromosome pair in our DNA contains a unique set of traits that we inherit from our ancestors. By analyzing these traits, geneticists can shed light onto our deep ancestral origins dating back thousands of years.

The revelation for me was the unexpected mix of geographical and cultural DNA associated with the Pridgen family line. The results indicate a strong lineage rooted in Western Europe, specifically the British Isles, with some unexpected links to Scandinavia and Central Asia. Traditionally, the Pridgen surname is linked predominantly to England, thus reinforcing the connection to Western Europe.

The small, but significant traces of Scandinavian genes was intriguing. Upon research, I discovered that Viking invasions in the British Isles around the 8th to 11th centuries could potentially explain this DNA mix. This finding enriched the narrative of my family's history with a touch of Norse valour and adventure.

The Central Asian connection was confounding. With further probing, I understood that this could be due to the genetic footprint left by Mongol invasion across Europe in the 13th century. Although less common, this sort of transcontinental genetic drift is not unheard of and gave an exciting twist to my Pridgen family history narrative.

Precise examination of my mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) suggested that the maternal lineage of the Pridgen family has a deep-rooted ancestry in Europe, significantly establishing themselves for several centuries. Intriguingly, my Y-DNA results, representative of my paternal lineage, paralleled the findings from my mtDNA results, fortifying the Western European history of Pridgen.
