My father Austin Gumbs was born in the historic city of Perth Amboy, NJ in 1931. His parents and siblings born in Anguilla immigrated from the beautiful island of Anguilla BWI 🇦🇮 in the 1920’s and 30’s for work. He was a well known educator and academic administrator in the city of his birth and the neighboring cities of New Brunswick, NJ and Highland park , NJ. Throughout his life he was also a playwright, poet, director, song writer, elem and high school teacher , elem, middle and high principal and school superintendent . He was the first and only black city councilman in city of Perth Amboy.
